3 surprising things that are killing your recruitment —and what to do instead

Are you getting slammed by those double math schedule conflicts?

Or by the well-intentioned pushing of a schedule chock-full of AP and IB classes?

I have found that these 3 surprising things can just kill your recruitment and retention:

💀 teacher-led recruitment

💀 too much focus on what you currently “have”

💀AP / IB / Double Math schedule recommendations

But let's be honest, they don't have to! Here are 3 things to do to turn your recruitment efforts around and to start building your program even more

  1. Your best recruiters are NOT YOU and your COLLEAGUES. Your best recruiters are YOUR STUDENTS! Incentivize program building with them through reward systems and by empowering them to do more reaching out and advertising!

  2. When you do recruit, don’t focus on what you currently have, focus on what these “future ensemble members” will bring to the table, and how they can fit in!

  3. BE the advocate your musicians need. Send them into their school counselor meetings with a script on why they want to join / stay in your ensemble! (See the graphic below and share with your students today!)

Share this with your people today so we can all build our programs to their fullest capacity!
